Tropical Storm Bailu 2021

Last Modified:

Satellite images, weather maps and tracks of Tropical Storm Bailu 2021, August 1 - 6. Max wind speed 65km/h.

12W is located 446 km southeast of iwakuni, Japan, and has moved west-northwestward at 28 km/h (15 knots) over the past 6 hours.

Satellite imagery shows a fully exposed low-level circulation center (LLCC). The initial position is assessed with high confidence based on the aforementioned satellite imagery, as well as the PGTW satellite fix.

12W is currently experiencing direct cyclone interaction with the stronger and more dominant Mirinae, which is positioned about 574 km to the southwest.

As a result, 12W is being accelerated around Mirinae?s northern edge while encountering increasing wind shear. In addition, there is dry air entrainment in the mid and upper levels throughout the forecast period.

The amount of wind shear being introduced by the rapidly approaching Mirinae to the southwest is hindering any further development. Forecast models agree that 12W will rapidly dissipate and become fully absorbed over the next 24 hours.

This is the final warning on this system by JTWC. The system will be closely monitored for signs of regeneration.

Maximum significant wave height is 3.7 meters (12 feet).
