A AMSR2 image shows a loosely defined low-level center, and a 22/13:07 UTC ASCAT MetOp-C pass shows 35 km/h winds (20 knots) located 40–60 nautical miles east of the center. This shows that the radius of maximum winds is decreasing, and the system, now on the cusp of becoming a tropical depression, is slowly consolidating.
Analysis for the area shows a favorable environment for development, characterized by modest wind shear, good westward outflow aloft, and warm sea surface temperatures (29–30°C).
Global deterministic and ensemble models are in very good agreement that 92W (Philippine name Kiyapo) will continue to gradually intensify over the next 24 hours.
